What’s In The Bottle?

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

By Alayna A. Fries Do you ever think about what is really in that pretty bottle you purchase at the beauty counter?…What ingredients make up your skin care products? I want to share with you about what some manufacturers are doing to the skin care products. You may think your skin care products are the best for your skin, but for the most part are bad and they are doing little good for your skin. When you buy your products to use in the comfort of your home, you may find that you cant even pronounce the weird names on the label. You may have no idea what they are and probably never heard of them in your entire life. You believe it is okay to use these products because you may have been told that the product is great for you skin. You may have been told it will make you have flawless and fabulous skin and it will make all your skin symptoms disappear. But then when I found out what was in them, WHOA!!! By my very own experience, I was shocked to discover the information I found about the ingredients I was putting on my skin everyday. Do you know that most of the skin care products on the market today are full of crap? I am sure what you discover will shock you as well. I personally found a huge company, claiming their product was Dermatologist recommended and that it wont clog pores. Then I turn it over to read the ingredients, and found that it contains sodium tallowate, otherwise known as animal fats. Animal fats are known to clog pores and cause acne. The Skin Care Industry has conducted surveys concerning natural products. These surveys proved that customers prefer all natural products on the market. There has been a heavy increase of natural products on the market, which is good, but what bothers me about this is many of these products are far from being natural. They may contain some natural ingredients or essential oils, but they still contain many harmful toxins and chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, and urea. This can be very misleading to you when you are out shopping for the best product for yourself. Let me suggest you don’t allow these skin care products to go on your skin and in your body! You understand that these products do get absorbed into your body through your skin, don’t you? Many skin care products on the shelves are loaded with toxic, harmful, synthetic ingredients and they are very damaging to the skin, let alone your health. Here are some others you have to watch out for….. EDTA (Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid) is a preservative found in skin care products. Its primary use as I understand is to keep the product from experiencing changes in color and keeping the product in tact. Which in and of itself does not sound like a really bad thing, my problem with this acid is it can cause redness of the skin as well as enable other toxic chemicals to enter more freely into the bloodstream. Other known hazards of this ingredient are that it prevents the regeneration of the new skin cells. Glycerin is a fake moisturizer that is derived from propylene alcohol, which as I will discuss as a drying agent. Glycerin is in products claiming that they will hydrate the skin, but it actually does the opposite. My understanding is that glycerin steals or draws moisture from the inside of the body, so it will make it feel like it moisturizes and hydrates, but it really isnt moisturizing the skin. Once the product is absorbed into the skin, it again becomes dry, it is simply a quick fix. What happens when you run out of this product? What does your skin feel like then? Is it still soft and supple? Let me suggest that you consider a product that will promote the natural balance of oils in your skin and body. Look for the ingredient Vegetable Glycerin, this is an emollient naturally extracted from vegetable oils. In my opinion, I think you should give the hand and body lotions up. Throw them out, you will be very happy you did. You will experience softer hands and a softer body. I do. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) This is another one of those acids that scare me. I say this because of the skin damage that may result from long term use for exfoliation purposes. Continued use for exfoliation, can break down the skins protective barriers. I say this because I understand it takes more than just dead skin cells off while exfoliating. In my opinion, if you feel you need to use alpha hydroxy acids, do so at your own risk. Petrolatum this is an ingredient that can actually interfere with the bodys own moisturizing mechanism and can lead to dry skin and cracking. This ingredient is found in moisturizers and lip balms to protect them from chapping and sunburn. The skin can become sensitive to the sun if you use petroleum based products. Think about it like this, what happens when you put french fries in a fryer full of oil, they cook. Do you want to cook your skin? If so, pile on the oil and take a walk in the sun. The manufacturers say that by using these petroleum based products you can achieve amazing, moist skin, and the dryness will go away. What you may find is that by using these products, your skin tends to become drier than when you began using the product and your symptoms may worsen. Your skin may have been simply over exposed to the ingredient. It also promotes acne and slows down normal cell development. All of these synthetic ingredients I have discussed to this point are found in most skin care products, so you may want to look at your very own skin care products, and see if you recognize any of those ingredients I mentioned, so you can see what I am talking about. I really want to help you achieve amazing skin, so learn how to read labels of your products…… I see and hear advertisements all the time for skin care products and they claim their product will give you healthy looking skin. 3 Easy Steps Towards Success In Your Shaklee Business

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

By Keith Kearney Have you decided to venture into the Shaklee Business Opportunity? Great! Youve made a excellent decision because you are on your way to partnering with an established and impressive company. The opportunities can be immeasurable, but you cant get very far on just opportunities, you have to take the initiative to achieve financial freedom by outlining a plan for yourself. Now you may ask, how am I going to find customers without being that pesky door-to-door salesman? How am I supposed to generate leads for my very own Shaklee business opportunity? How do I train my distributors so that I can achieve that six-figure income? Questions like these are going to help you get started off on the right foot. Here are some tips to help you out: Your First Step to Success: Find a team that fits you and has been previously established. The first key to success in any business is to partner with a team of people who are already accomplishing the kind of results you desire. Through this team, you can learn how theyve built their business. How do they build their business. online lead generation or flip chart presentations? Its important you know this before you send in your application because they are going to teach you the same way. What kind of training do they provide? Are your up-line members available for phone training and consultation? Do they have a training website already in place or will you need to make your own?In the Shaklee business world today, you should find an organization that is familiar with the internet and with an established marketing system in place that can help you take advantage of various online lead generation search engines and tools. Second Step to Success: Endless lead generation for your Shaklee business opportunity Without leads, you really wont have much of a business to run. Most Shaklee distributors buy over priced leads through the bigger lead companies and or hold many “in home business presentations” for their friends and family. Keep in mind that you should have the ability to generate a constant flow of leads and gain repeat guests. This can easily be done using e-zine advertising and simple “lead capture pages” if your organization has the right marketing tools in place. Third Step to Success: Enlist Repeat Guests When you have an organization consisting of repeat guests who continually come back to your Shaklee products because they love the products and they love the service, you are on your way to achieving a long-term residual income. Sometimes most Shaklee distributors focus only on recruiting other distributors, but remember youll want to make sure that your business endeavor involves the attainment of new product guests on a daily basis. Im not sure about you, but I definitely dont want to be an annoying salesperson, and post fliers, or sell products door-to-door, wasting most of my time. Thats not how you achieve the success that you desire. The surefire way to attain repeat product guests by the hundreds is to make sure you market Shaklee online to the masses. Usually when someone samples a Shaklee product, they continue to use them for months and months to come. Then you can easily introduce those repeat guests to the rest of the Shaklee product line. When youre evaluating the potential organizations before you join, keep in mind to make sure you have a proper marketing system in place that can help you quickly and easily gain new product guests on a daily basis from your very own home. Special Response Team

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

By Nikola Marshall Have you ever seen a police departments Special Response Team in action? These are the guys dressed in black with helmets, face shields and very large weapons. I have seen them up close and they are very intimidating, not good if you are a criminal. Have I been a hostage? In a manner of speaking. I belong to a volunteer group that works with my local police department. One of our perks is to take part in scenarios, an exercise that simulates a real-life situation. In this case, yes, Ive been a hostage. So what exactly does a Special Response team do? They are a very specialized and important branch of the police department. They are called out on hostage situations, armed barricade incidents, high risk search or arrest warrants and any crisis situation deemed necessary for use of a specialized unit. They can also be utilized in the event of a suicidal individual, civil disorder, natural disasters, riot control, bomb threats and surveillance. Essentially, they respond to any incident that requires extra resources, equipment and training that cannot be handled by traditional police response. Tactical teams require members to go through intense and specialized training. It is a voluntary position, but officers that are interested must pass a rigorous assessment to be considered. Often this includes, but may not be limited to, an oral review board, obstacle course, firearm proficiency and working various scenarios. Teams will conduct biweekly or monthly training exercises in hostage rescue, dynamic forced entry, covert or stealth clearing of a building, weapons training and, of course, the scenarios. Teams also attend outside training course offered throughout the country. They learn and update their training in areas such as shoot/no shoot decisions, securing a perimeter, threat recognition, officer down situations, building searches and the use of less lethal weapons. To keep their training fresh, they will hold one or more scenarios per year. Ill walk you through the first one I was involved with. The scenario was a hostage situation at an office building. One person was down, the number of hostages and suspects was unknown. This is all the information the team is given. The team was comprised of officers that were trying to become members. In this case, we had two suspects and four hostages. Our suspects were police officers on the actual team. I was the last hostage remaining, so I had a complete and inside view of how a tactical team works. My captors found a room with a view of the front door so we could watch the progress of the team. It is a very slow, arduous process. The officers have no idea what they will find or where, so they move at a snails pace. In this case it took them forty five minutes just to enter the building! Once inside, the slow task continues. We had two hostages hiding in different rooms. When a team finds a hostage or a hostage is released, they must treat them as suspects until they are positive they are not. Once they discovered both of the hidden hostages, they moved on. Next up was to release a hostage. She ran screaming down the hall, only to be ordered to stop, turn around, put her hands on her head and then walk backwards toward the team. Then they gather what information they can as to what yet awaits them. Now we were down to me as the remaining hostage. My captors decided they would put me around a corner, threatening to harm me. This was my first close up view of the team. To say the sight before me was intimidating is an understatement! The team was dressed head to toe in black, their body armor making them look bigger and even more imposing. They were armed with high power weapons and were in very close proximity to one another. I wanted to turn around and tell my captors, Boys, you need to just give it up now. This tactic didnt work, so my captors and I retired to a room and waited. And waited. Suddenly, the door burst open with men yelling, get down! and bang!, this last because they werent even allowed paint bullets. I was tackled by one team member in order to get me out of the line of fire. And, just like that, it was over. It happened so fast, I didnt have time to think. That is exactly what they were meaning to do. The element of surprise. Congrats all around, the remaining hostage is safe! Following such a drill, the team assembles and discusses what went wrong, what they did right and how anything could have been done differently. After experiencing this drill and the others I have been in, I know that all of the teams hard work has paid off. I feel so much safer knowing there are men such as this in the event of a true life situation. Nikola lives and write in Oklahoma. Genital Warts Natural and Alternative Treatment Remedies

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

By S.A. Smith Have you been diagnosed with genital warts caused by the HPV virus? If so, your physician has probably advised you of the more conventional treatments available such as pharmaceutical ointments, cryosurgery (freezing), electrocautery (burning) or laser treatment. While many people undergo these types of treatments, some opt for a less invasive natural solution by visiting a Naturopathic doctor. While there is no cure for the hpv virus, there are specific natural treatments that may help reduce and eliminate the warts over time. TOPICAL TREATMENTS Before resorting to medically invasive treatments many people are choosing to try alternative treatments that may naturally help reduce or eliminate genital warts. Many holistic treatment resources advise that different remedies will work for different individuals so it may take a little trial and error to find one suited to your needs. Experiment with applying the following directly to the infected wart areas: Goldenseal: considered to have natural antibiotic properties and may destroy many types of viral infections. Tea Tree Oil: strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial aromatherapy essential oil. Aloe Vera: healing and soothing properties. Garlic Oil: or even raw garlic is believed to promote white blood cells ability to fight infection. Sour Apple Juice: it is believed the beneficial effect is from the magnesium in the apple Most of these topical treatments have not been clinically proven as an effective treatment for genital warts, but have shown to have positive benefits is related studies or in fighting other types of viral infections. Other notable mentions for natural topical remedies also include; cabbage juice, banana skin, chickweed, dandelion juice, rubber plant, and pineapple juice. HERBAL IMMUNE BOOSTING SUPPLEMENTS Antiviral herbal remedies taken internally to boost the bodys natural ability to fight viral infections include the following supplements: Echinacea: known for its ability to boost the immune system, is important in the treatment of genital warts. Astragalus: used in Chinese herbal medicine for over 2000 years, Astragalus is known to improve the bodys ability to fight off viral and bacterial infections, such as the Human Papilloma Virus, by boosting the bodys immune system. Astragalus has been taken as a supplement by people undergoing chemotherapy to help restore their tired immune systems. Garlic powder tablets: Once used in 1550 BC by Egyptians as an external treatment for tumors, garlic has long since been recognized for its medicinal values. Of the many benefits garlic has on the human body, it promotes the ability of white blood cells to fight infection. A natural antibiotic, garlic is effective in countering bacteria, fungus and viral conditions. Vitamins: Supplementation with high doses of vitamin A, B complex, vitamin C, E, zinc, lactobacillus acidophilus and the amino acid L-cysteine have shown to have immune boosting benefits. In addition, other noted antiviral herbal supplements include dandelion, greater celandine (cheilidonium), mullein, thuja, houseleek, goldenseal, calendula, lomatium, pau d’arco and wintergreen. DIET AND LIFESTYLE It is also suggested that you take a proactive approach in improving your health through lifestyle. By reducing sugars and refined foods, reducing red meat, increasing vegetables and fruit, taking the necessary vitamins and minerals, drinking plenty of water, regular exercise and getting proper rest, you will boost your immune system which will help in fighting off the virus. EMOTIONAL STRESS Because genital warts are considered a sexually transmitted disease, diagnosis will often have an emotional impact on the sufferer. Many people will experience a whole gamut of feelings including guilt, fear, rage, isolation and helplessness. HPV is one of the most common viruses in the world with an estimated 20 million sufferers, so as you can see you are not alone. It is believed that emotional health has a direct impact on your physical health. Therefore it is important to work through these feelings. Contact your local STD clinic for a list of support groups available in your area, or there are countless support groups and message boards available on the internet. Through seeing other peoples experiences, you will see HPV is a very manageable virus. Since most of these natural remedies are considered reasonably safe, they may be worth investigating before turning to invasive and costly medical treatments. Ensure to discuss any alternative treatment strategies with your health care practitioner before starting them. How To Efficiently Lose Weight, Build A Better Body And Attain And Maintain Optimal Health-Forever!

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

By Kurt Hurley Know Who You Are! Now that I have your attention, I just merely want to communicate a very simple, yet still confusing solution to all that you ever wanted to achieve with regards to your health, fitness, physique and wellbeing. And that isthe more we know and understand about ourselves and our bodies, the more rapidly we will realize permanent and perfectly appropriate results. Information is everywhere and in abundance, but the truth is always unfailingly the truth! We must take control of our lives and our destiny and we can do this through the exploration and exposure of resonating, realistic facts. There is no magic bullet, no quick fixthere is only you and truth and the truth is and always has been right under your nose. The more you know, the more you know! Now my friends, if you don’t already know, learn and apply! How Things Really Work! Dynamicsdefined as the branch of mechanics that deals with the motion and equilibrium of systems under the action of force or forces. In exercise, dynamics are specifically all of the applied mechanics to a particular movement and or movements such as, the sets, repetitions, angles, speed, velocity, resistance, position, plane of gravity and so on And of all the training variables (dynamics) associated with strength development, there isnt a more important or less specifically understood element than the repetition or repetitions. Perhaps the most significant factor in a personalized program of strength exercise is the number of repetitions performed per set. The specific reason is solely related to our muscle fiber type. Muscle Fiber Types? What Are They? So, you askwhat is a muscle fiber type? Well without getting too in-depth, here is the short version. All of our muscles are distinctively composed of Type 1 and Type 2 muscle fibers. Type 1 muscle fibers are frequently referred to as slow twitch, while Type 2 muscle fibers are commonly called fast twitch. And Type 1 fibers are characterized by being smaller in size, facilitating less force faculty and having a better endurance capacity. Of the two, they are the dominant muscle fibers in endurance activities such as marathon running, swimming and cycling. Type 2 fibers are characterized by being bigger, having a grater force faculty and less endurance capacity. They are the dominant muscle fibers in power activities such as weight training, throwing, sprinting, jumping and moving. Explicitly and chiefly due to physiological differences, Type 1 fibers fatigue much more slowly and will complete more repetitions within a given resistance structure. On the other hand, Type 2 fibers fatigue more quickly and will inevitably complete fewer repetitions. Test One (Research Study Example) A point to ponderin a research test study, particularly the results in which 88 men and women performed as many repetitions as possible with about 75 percent of their maximum resistance. Specifically, all of the subjects were tested for the maximum weight/resistance load they could perform one time on the nautilus 10-Degree Chest machine. After a five-minute rest, they completed as many repetitions as possible with 75 percent of their maximum weight load. The greater portion of the participants (group one) performed between 9 and 15 repetitions. This group represented normal individuals with a relatively even mix of Type 1 and Type 2 muscle fibers. A second group completed slightly more reps, about 11+ and these were excellent power athletes (sprinters, jumpers) who typically have a higher percentage of Type 1 (low endurance) muscle fibers. And only a few of the subjects (group three) completed more than 15 reps, these are outstanding endurance athletes (marathoners, triathletes) who typically possess a higher percentage of Type 1 (high endurance) muscle fibers. Consequently, it appears that individuals who have an equal mix of Type 1 and Type 2 muscle fibers more than likely would obtain optimal results by training at about 10 reps per set. It would also appear that individuals who have predominately Type 2 muscle fibers would likely obtain optimal results by training with fewer reps per set. Equally, individuals with preponderantly Type 1 muscle fibers should optimally train with more reps per set to achieve maximum results. Test Two (Research Study Example) Observationally, this study was supported by a follow-up test study in which the median-endurance athletes trained with nine to 11 reps per set, the low-endurance athletes trained with six to eight reps per set, and the high-endurance athletes trained with 12-14 reps per set. All of the athletes made similar improvements in muscular strength after eight weeks of training with a personalized repetition protocol. These results indicate that predominantly Type 2 muscles respond well to low-repetition training. Type 1 muscles respond well to high-repetition training and evenly mixed muscles respond best to mid-repetition training. This is not to say that muscles specifically in and of themselves are conscious of the number of reps that are completed, or of any of the applied dynamics for that matter. The crucible to muscular performance and fatigue is the direct, correlative liaison between time and force. All in all, you can produce a high level of muscular force for a relatively short period of time and a low level of muscular force for a relatively long duration of time. Nevertheless, to stimulate strength development, you should emphatically only train your muscles contained by the anaerobic energy system. This system supplies great amounts of energy for up to 90 seconds of high output movement. Training Principles To achieve optimal strength results, the recommended is that you use enough resistance to fatigue your muscles within a30-90 second duration. Principally as a rule, individuals with primarily Type 2 muscle fibers should train in the region of 30-50 seconds per set. Utilizing the six second per rep rule (two seconds lifting and four seconds lowering), with the prime focus being the negative. This would consist of between five to eight reps. Persons with predominantly Type 1 muscles should train about 70-90 seconds per set. At six seconds per repetition, this represents about 12-15 repetitions. Persons with an even mix of muscle fibers should train about 50-70 seconds per set. At six seconds per repetition, this represents about 8-12 repetitions. Because more people possess a relatively even mix of muscle fibers, a 50 to 70- seconds bout of strength exercise is an excellent training recommendation. If you choose to train in a slowed manner, completing 14-second repetitions (10 seconds lifting and four seconds lowering), you should use enough resistance to complete four to five repetitions. In this manner, the muscles again reach fatigue within the 50 to 70-second anaerobic range. Training for Specificity Depending upon the type of activity you are undertaking, you may want to adjust your training accordingly. To determine the optimum number of reps for a particular muscle group, such as the quadriceps, follow this procedure: i. Perform 10 squats with relatively light weight. ii. After a two-minute rest, perform five squats with a moderate weight. iii. After a two-minute rest, perform one squat with a reasonably heavy weight. Proceed in this mode until you determine the heaviest load you can perform once with the execution of proper technique. This is your maximum weight load. Subsequent to about a five minute break, perform as many leg extensions that you can possibly can endure with 75 percent of your maximum weight load. This represents the approximate number of repetitions you should perform in this movement. For example, If you finish a total six repetitions, you in all probability have a notably higher percentage of Type 2 muscle fibers and should probably train with about six to eight repetitions per set. Antithetically, if you complete 12 or more repetitions, you more than likely have a higher percentage of Type 1 muscle fibers and should for greater results train at about 11-16 reps per set. Through the course of applicational trial and error, it has been determined that the best strength outcomes are more consistently achieved when you correlate your training reps to your muscle fiber type. Although muscle fiber type may vary somewhat among muscle groups, we have found this factor to be relatively consistent in most people. And in doing so, I have been able to provide consistent results to my clients over the years. But with that said, I have also discovered that too many fitness trainers do not recognize or understand this unconditional and vital aspect of designing an appropriate program for their diverse client profiles, and so subsequently these trainers usually lose a good deal of their clients prematurely. Despite whatever muscle fiber type or types you possess, the key to maximum strength development is accomplished by way of high-output, peak-intensive, anaerobic exercise. The resistance should be sufficient to fatigue the target muscle group within 30-90 seconds of movement. This is best accomplished with a double progressive training system using a protocol of 8 to 12 reps. Begin by selecting a resistance that fatigues the target muscle roughly within 8-10 reps, then train with this resistance habitually until you can complete 12 repetitions with relative ease. After you have adapted to that stimulus, add 2.5 to five pounds and progress in the same manner until you can perform 12 reps with the new resistance. Through identically training in the optimum repetition range with your particular muscle type and by systematically escalating the repetition count and the resistance; safe, sound, solid and progressive movement toward your ultimate strength potential will be realized, not to mention if weight loss, fat loss or a leaner, sleeker, more healthier you is your objective, than this knowledge is crucial. Now obviously this is not the absolute solution to the entire global state of obesity, depression, degenerative disorders or any of slew of religious indifferences, political positions or posturing, economical states or climatic conditions, but where the acquisition of fitness results is concerned, understanding your muscle fiber type/s and training specifically for personal benefit is truly a giant leap for mankind! But Wait-There’s More

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

By Phil Grisolia For anyone addicted to watching infomercials in the wee hours of the morning, or who is intrigued by those 2-minute TV spots that try to get you to buy some thing-a-mabob you really dont need, these words are all too familiar. But wait, theres more, proclaims the enthusiastic pitchman with the annoying voice. If you watch closely the next time you see one of those pitchmen a generic term that includes both gals and guys youll notice that their pitches have begun to change in order to compensate for the realities of todays world. There was once a time when their more typically meant that whatever goodies they were selling an unusual broom, a set of knives, a tub of oxy-something would be doubled. Instead of one broom, theyd include a second one FREE! Instead of one knife set, theyd send Yep, theyd send you a second one FREE! . But its a changing world we live in. And one of the big things thats changed is that when these pitchmen do offer a second one FREE! they say something like yours free for just the additional cost of shipping. Thats why most final on-screen shots no longer show a specific S&H cost. Instead, they say Plus shipping and handling. S&H costs have obviously sky-rocketed. I saw one direct response TV spot a while ago that was pushing an interesting cake decorating gizmo. It could make frosting flowers, write Happy Birthday in fancy script, even edge the cake with colorful ribbons of frosting waves. The cost for the fabric frosting dispenser plus about 20 interchangeable plastic heads that produced the signs? A surprisingly low $10. The fact that the price was an even $10 was itself unusual. Id have thought theyd price the kit at $9.95. Actually, the quality of the demonstration could easily have justified a $14.95 price tag. The traditional psychology-of-pricing rule, you know, says keep your price under any even dollar amount. In this case under that $10 or $15. Does that nickel really make a difference? Well, thats another story for another time. Anyway, what really caught my attention was the $7.95 add-on these folks were asking for shipping and handling. This was no heavy-weight gadget. It was fabric and plastic. So, either shipping costs have skyrocketed, or handling the cost to pick, pack and process the order has jumped beyond belief. Or not unusual the seller built an additional profit into that $7.95 S&H fee. Theres that nickel mentality again. Why anyone would pay $8 to get a $10 item delivered is beyond me. I doubt many people would. Or did. Thats a total of $18, almost half of which is for shipping and handling. Not a very smart move on the part of the seller. A smarter way would have been to put a $14.95 price on the gizmo, plus a $4.95 charge for shipping and handling. It would certainly sound more reasonable to potential buyers. In at least two ways, this latter pricing structure could be the most profitable for the seller. First, more people would likely order at the $19.90 total price ($14.95 + $4.95 for S&H) than at $17.95 when that $17.95 includes a $7.95 S&H charge. Thats because even people who respond to infomercials and TV spots are offended when told they have to pay almost as much for S&H as theyre paying for what theyre bought. Secondly, even assuming the same number of sales at each price point, and even if the actual out-of-pocket S&H cost of the seller is $7.95, when you subtract $7.95 from $19.90, the seller ends up with $11.95 per sale rather than the $10 per sale at the $17.95 price. Thats almost a 25% increase in revenue. The Take-Away Lesson here is that to maximize sales and profits, frequent price testing is an absolute must. 2007, Philip A. Finding the Right Attorney

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By James Monahan Legal matters can be downright confusing especially to lay men who have not even heard, much less understand most of those deep legal mumbo jumbo that attorneys use inside the court. People facing legal dilemmas of business or personal nature need attorneys to help them make better decisions on the subject. With attorneys present, all pertinent details regarding the legal matter can be explained to them including sensitive issues like monetary liabilities, conviction and of course the clients rights. It is, however, a reality that some attorneys switch sides especially during sensitive money issues especially if they are being offered additional compensation for their trouble. It is for this reason that you should be careful in choosing the attorney who will be representing you. Here are some tips in finding the right attorney to represent your interest. Ask for referrals Searching on your own for a reliable attorney can be harrowing especially when you are not really much into legal matters. Short of searching for names in the periodicals, you can ask your relatives, friends and even colleagues for referrals. For sure, they have one or two names that they can think of or better, attorneys that they worked with before. This will ensure that you will be getting an attorney that somebody you know has already worked with and can therefore give a valid opinion about his credentials and capabilities.Having worked with someone you know, at least you can be assured of their character and their commitment. From the names given to you, you can then choose for the attorney that you think will best represent your interest in the legal case you are fighting for. This is very important as you will have the chance to choose from some of the best attorneys that you have. Ask for references Before hiring an attorney, you can ask for some references, people who will attest to their character. References may be clients who they have handled in the past or people who have had dealings with them. It is actually even better if clients are given as references, not only those who have won the cases but also those who lost. This way, you will be able to get an overall picture of the type of work that the attorney has. James Monahan is the owner and Senior Editor of attorney, legal assistance. Home Tanning Beds

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

By Ken Marlborough More and more people are opting to buy their own tanning beds rather than frequent a tanning salon. The main reason for this is that over a period of months or years, frequenting a salon can cost you thousands of dollars. Thats money you could have spent on your own machine. And then theres the matter of time spent traveling to and from the salon. If you tan often, why not invest in a home tanning bed? Indoor Tanning Beds Very recently the World Health Organization issued a statement, backed up by the National Institutes of Health, recommending that no one under the age of eighteen should use an indoor tanning bed, citing tanning bed popularity among youth, high ultraviolet radiation levels in the beds, and a general increase in skin cancer cases. Whether minors should be prohibited from using indoor tanning beds is a question of politics, but the point on safety is well taken by the majority of the tanning bed industry, as the warnings on their websites can attest. Indoor tanning beds must be used in moderation. A good rule of thumb is this: If you think your tan looks good, take a break from your tanning schedule. Residential Tanning Beds Residential tanning beds run off 120V or 220V power and take the form of two basic designs. Mostly likely the design you buy will be a horizontal tanning bed. Also known as capsules or clamshells, these beds consist of a lid lined with tubular ultraviolet lamps, and a glass or plastic bench contoured to fit the body. Set the timer, lie down on the bench, close the lid, rest your head on a pillow and allow the UV light to penetrate your skin. Relax. Turn your body over one time halfway through your session for even tanning. Almost as common for home use is the vertical tanning bed, also known as a tanning booth or stand-up. The interior walls are lined with UV lamps to tan you on all sides simultaneously. Just step inside and close the door. A tanning booth tans with twice the speed of a clamshell tanning bed. Portable tanning beds are also popular in the residential sector. A portable tanning bed consists of a canopy of UV lamps on a wheeled support structure. Position the hydraulically mounted canopy over your favorite deck chair or beach towel and youre golden. The best part: tanning canopies cost half as much as clamshell tanning beds. The down side: canopies dont deliver as high a quality tan as stand-ups or clamshells. 7 Paths to Affordable Legal Recourse

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

By Aaron Brooks Using the law to solve problems or seek justice is expensive business. Many people do not fight for their rights because they just cannot afford the fees charged by lawyers and courts. And at times like a nasty divorce, injury, accidents, theft, loss of employment and more it is greater strain on meager finances that need to be stretched to cover contingencies. The situation of in affordability is quite common and recognizing this there are avenues set up that offer inexpensive legal help. 1. There are lawyers who set aside a small percentage of their case load to fight pro-bono cases for people who cannot afford the costs of paying courts and lawyers. 2. There are lawyers who do take on cases for a percentage of the settlement. When you meet a lawyer for the first time you need to be honest about finances so that between the two of you some agreement can be reached. 3. There are legal services run on federal funding. These offices provide legal assistance to those fighting civil cases. These offices however only take on cases below a certain income level. And, they do not handle criminal cases. 4. Many bar associations and institutions run legal clinics where qualified lawyers will help you weed through legalities when you are preparing to represent yourself, pro-se. 5. There are in place what is known as courthouse facilitation services. These services help people file papers, fill forms, pay fees, and process legal claims. Their job is to help individuals understand and unravel the court systems. 6. Public defenders are qualifies lawyers assigned to defendants in criminal cases by the DAs office or court. These lawyers provide free or low cost help to those involved in criminal trials. 7. Low cost legal help is available to those who are not poor but do not have income levels that support legal costs. In these programs lawyers give advice and handle legal proceedings for the lowest possible costs. If you need to know about such programs ask the court clerk or law librarian. Otherwise surf the World Wide Web where one can get in depth information on legal aid programs. Considerable information is available at: http://www.abanet.org/legalservices/delivery/delmodesthelp.html and several other web sites that are devoted to helping laypersons deal with legal matters. While help is available you too need to be ready to help. Make a file and write down the exact sequence of events. Note down anything that comes to mind as important. List the names and addresses of all those involved in the case. Be clear why you need legal help and always be honest, never hide facts especially if you are in the wrong. There are organizations in the US that have been especially set up to provide low-cost legal aid to individuals, families, and small business. A network, the organization offers a package deal where for a small yearly cost they will handle x amount of legal work. And since it is a package the rates are discounted, for instance the cost for a traffic ticket defense will normally be USD 199 a legal club member will only pay around USD 89 as legal services. More information can be accessed at: http://namasta.com/services/otherservices.php?subpageID=41 . Legal help is available to those who make efforts to find out details and fight for justice. Making The Connection: Tips For Getting Noticed

Friday, January 4th, 2008

By Toni Coleman Chances are that you have had a wide variety of experiences in your quest for meetingsingles. These can range from an event that yields several nice interactions and at least one offer to get together for a date, to going home feeling frustrated and convinced you are destined to be a dating failure. If you had made a note of your mood, your general attitude, your level of comfort, (andother related factors) after each experience, you would have some very useful information. For the attributes you carry along with you to these social gatherings will have agreat impact on the outcome of each. The following are tips for helping you to present the best you to others. As you read each, do a quick inventory of how you rate in that area. It’s always helpful to ask friends toweigh in with their observations. The more information, the better. 1. Present yourself as confident and in possession of a healthy self-esteem. In general, people are attracted to those who appear confident and who feel goodabout themselves. Certainly, this is a turn-on for you as well. If you feel desirableand sexy, it makes sense that others will too. If low self-esteem is a problem for you, this should be the first area you work on inyourself. It is not necessary to have over the top confidence, just a sense that youare someone that has a lot of positives to offer others. Do some reading, take a class that teaches assertiveness and/or practice dailyaffirmations. Remember also that when you treat yourself with respect and adhereto healthy boundaries with others, you will foster a healthy sense of self. 2.Be Yourself NEVER try to be someone you are not. Not only do you come across as insincere, youalso will present as uncomfortable and make others feel this way right along withyou. Trying to be cool, aggressive, (etc.), generally just makes you awkward and unapproachable.Relax, be natural, be the you that your friends and others who know and like you, seeand appreciate. Think back to the times you have witnessed someone “acting” in a social situation, and the general reaction of those around them. Then think about the people youknow who are good at meeting others. These are the people who present their true(best) side. 3. Smile and Show Enthusiasm Certainly you have encountered strangers who were sullen and appeared negativeand unapproachable. A smile can change all that. Have an open and inviting expression. Make good eye contact. People are DRAWNto others like this. Let that attractive stranger know you are open to meeting themand happy to be there. If they have an interest back, this will pave the way for afirst interaction. If you don’t feel like smiling it may be a good idea to sit this one out at homewith a movie or a good book or a low-key get together with a good friend. 4. Present Your Best Appearance Always make your best effort in your grooming and choice of clothing.Attractive is just that. It’s not about having beautiful features or a fantastic body. It’s all about presenting what you have in the best light possible. This also includes presenting an attractive personality. Be friendly, not pushy.Be open, not indiscreet. Have opinions, don’t be a know-it-all. Always remember toconsider others’ feelings and needs. These interactions are not just about you. 5. Have Some Good Openings Lines Available Hint: Natural conversation is best. Some possible ones to consider: *Do you know so and so? *I noticed you were enjoying the music a lot, isn’t this a great band? *Your drink looks good- what is it? *I noticed you standing here alone and thought you may want some company. Of course, the direct approach is ok too. *Hi, I’m so and so, what is your name? Remember that there are no rules anymore about who goes first. If you seesomeone who interests you, go for it. Just remember that they may not returnyour feelings. Then you move away gracefully, look around for someoneelse that attracts you, and make an overture towards them. Also remember that rejection is part of the process. If you let the fear keep you from taking that first step, you will greatly lessen your chances of meeting andconnecting with compatible singles.
