Dog Walkers & Your Career

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Ian Christie I was jogging in the park the other day and noticed a number of professional dog walkers. They had many dogs under their care and the necessary tools of their trade. Nothing remarkable about that. What struck me was a) the number of providers I saw on this one visit, b) their marketing efforts, and c) the range of services offered. Parked on the streets around the park were various types of mini-van and SUV, emblazoned with each dog walking entrepreneur’s web site address, phone number, slogan, and featured services. So, what does this have to do with your career? It illustrates an important career development theme: When I was growing up, my Mom and Dad’s core career advice was to “get my foot in the door.” Still sound, but my core career advice to you is **to make your own future.** These dog walking entrepreneurs have taken a relatively simple personal service and have scaled it to attract more customers and higher fees from their customers. They have taken what traditionally was a marginal service job to the level of a bona fide business. They made their own opportunity. They shaped it they way they wanted. And, their customers pay handsomely for it. Cool. So, my first point is this…you too can make your own opportunities, even out of the most seemingly mundane task, niche, need, service, etc. This may involve you moving into a new area or it may simply mean elevating the work you currently do to a whole new level. Back to the dogs. In Vancouver, where I live, people take good care of their dogs. You can purchase dog medical insurance. There are dog hikes and adventure day trips. And, there are a number of gourmet dog food stores. So, we see a small, premium industry sprouting up around the basic service needs of “who can walk our dog while we are at work/school” and “how can I take better care of my dog.” All of these entrepreneurs recognized the same themes and have capitalized on it in different ways. Undoubtedly, the larger corporations in the pet industry are capitalizing on this trend too. Double cool. So, the second point is this…there is rarely only one possible opportunity in a specific market. If you recognize a need, look at it objectively from all angles and get creative about how you could serve that need. Of course, this strategy applies to current and aspiring entrepreneurs. It also applies to those working for other people. Intrapreneurialism (being entrepreneurial within an organization) is a great and necessary thing. You may have an idea how to do something better, or faster, or cheaper, or at higher quality. You may have a new service idea. You may have spotted a tiny or huge niche that needs filling. Whatever it is, occupying a specific job does not necessarily mean that you work in a pre-defined box. If you truly find yourself boxed in, then that’s where it is time to make some important career decisions. If you find yourself on the job market, think about what you can do to create your own opportunities. In the current economic environment, I know that things are uncertain, and difficult. But, here is one of those basic laws of life: there will always be opportunities for those who both recognize and pursue them. There will always be opportunities for those with initiative, determination and common sense. The “lucky” are simply those who have taken more chances than average. Within organizations and without. Never think that you do not have options. Ian Christie is a career coach, entrepreneur, former Monster.com Sr. Director & former executive recruiter. Fat Loss - 7 Dangerous Myths

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Ruby Lee My boyfriend used to call me gullible for my belief in unfounded claims on fat loss. He said my beliefs are dangerous to my health and are hurting my efforts to lose fat. I have to agree with him. He is a bodybuilder and a certified personal trainer. These are the 7 myths on fat-loss I used to believe. They are dangerous. 1) Weightlifting makes me gain weight Unless you are a hardcore bodybuilder like my boyfriend, chances are weightlifting will not make you gain 100 pounds. Weightlifting or resistance training promotes muscle growth. Muscles burns more calories than fat. Therefore if you increase your muscle mass, you burn more calories and this will aid fat loss. 2) Crash dieting burns fat Truth is, crash dieting does not promote fat burning. Instead, crash dieting degrades muscle and increase fat. Though crash diet makes you lose weight initially, what you lose are in fact muscle and water, not fat. As a result, you are lighter but fatter because your body fat percentage is now higher. 3) You can lose fat eating whatever you want Excess food means excess calories. Theres no way getting around this maxim. You have to limit what you eat to decrease calories and exercise to lose excess fat. However, you can eat your favourite high-calorie food sparingly only if you have a deficit in your daily calories. 4) Natural is safe and aids in losing fat This myth is very dangerous. Natural products like herbal products may contain dangerous elements that may be detriment to your body and health. You want to lose fat, not get sick. Check with a doctor to ensure that natural products are safe. 5) Fast food makes you fat In general, the maxim excess food equals excess weight holds true. Be sensible when youre in fast food restaurant. Avoid super-sized meal and sugar-loaded soda. Replace fries and fried food with salad or grilled chicken. If you cant resist a super-sized meal, get it. But share it with a partner. 6) Eating after 8 p.m makes you fat No matter when you eat, if you eat excessively youll gain fat. I dont encourage snacking though, but if you do it sparingly you wont turn to a fat behemoth. 7) Low fat food is low calorie Low fat food does not mean low calorie. Low fat food may contain tremendous amount of sugar which skew the total calories up the roof. Check the nutrition label if in doubt. These 7 myths are among the many myths that permeate the fat-loss world. I urge you to examine your beliefs, and by understanding these 7 myths youll be on your way to fat-loss success. Do you know that 95% of all diets fail? Do you want to be in the successful 5%? Grow Your Own Food; Find Health and Fitness in the Garden!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Vikki Scovell This week there has been much excitement in our household; we picked our own vegetables and ate them for the first time; ok so it was only a bunch of salad leaves, but they whipped the pants off salad in a bag from the shops. Whats more, I only started to grow things a few weeks ago, but have still eaten salad from the garden three nights running. I started by clearing a messy flowerbed, and bought some runner bean plants and a couple of tomato plants from a local gardening shop. I though that this would satisfy my botanical cravings, but then my mum gave me some seeds, and baby lettuce plants, and suddenly it was looking a little more like a real veggie patch. Before I knew it, I had run out of space, so I used some old wooden fruit crates from the green grocers, lined them with a compost sack, and filled them with earth; now they are housing my herbs, pepper plants and some Borlotti Beans. The little kitchen garden has taken on a life of its own and moved out of the flowerbeds and into every container that I can find. There are runner beans, peas, black turtle beans, borlotti beans, red peppers, chili peppers, basil, parsley, chard, lettuce, spicy mizuna and other hot leaves, 2 varieties of rocket, parsley, tomatoes, little Alpine strawberries for the children, and courgette plants in big pots. I have really been enjoying my time in the garden; I burnt a good few calories turning over the flower beds, and digging out some stubborn old roots, have spent some beautiful hours in the sunshine, and watering my little plants in the evening is less of a chore, and more a time for relaxation and contemplation. The children have been very excited about the vegetables, and spend happy moments watering or collecting snails in a bucket (to be relocated). There has been great anticipation waiting for the tiny strawberries to ripen, and searching under the leaves to find them. If you have any space at all, you can rediscover your link with real food by growing something. There is still time to throw some lettuce and rocket seeds into a pot, or pick up some young plants to grow-on. You can put runner beans in a pot, supported by a wig-wam of canes, or grow some chili peppers on a kitchen window. If you have a spare pot, buy some salad leaf mix, the young plants grow quickly and you will be picking your own summer salad within the month. I cannot recommend the experience highly enough; growing your own food is great exercise, the process is educational for children, and the end results give satisfaction and superior nourishment. There is a different time scale in the garden; nothing happens immediately, and you are forced to slow down and relax the pace of life, something we could all benefit from; the complete opposite of fast food. The crowning glory has been collecting things to wash and put straight onto the plate, so here was my dinner last night to give you some inspiration: Roasted Vegetable Bruchetta with garden salad: Roughly cut some onions (red and white) and some sweet pointed red peppers, and roast for about 30-40 minutes in a little olive oil, salt, pepper and any herbs (I love thyme). Toast some bread (I used home made white) and when it has cooled, rub with a peeled garlic clove (I use the whole thing, but I really love garlic) and drizzle some olive oil over the top. Pile the roasted vegetables onto the garlicy toast, and drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice or balsamic vinegar. Serve with lots of leafy salad and rocket from the garden, and some sliced tomatoes; a perfect summer dinner. Vikki Scovell BA(hons) PG DIP is a fully qualified Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach. Reverse Cell Phone Number Search - Free Useful Search Secrets Exposed

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_Burke]Peter Burke A reverse cell phone number search can be free although it should not be forgotten that even though it may be advertised as free this is not really the case! Why? What most people don’t factor into the “cost equation” is time. If you have ever tried looking up a cell phone number that you didn’t get to answer in time but unsure as to who and where it’s from then you will know how frustrating this can be! Well to get you started I want to reveal how I have successfully carried out a reverse cell number search. When you see how easily it’s done you’ll be kicking yourself as to why you hadn’t thought of it before! You can start by harnessing the power of the internet. It’s fair to say that most people don’t realize that they leave some sort of trail that can be followed Yes it’s that simple! Let me briefly explain and then you can see where I’m coming from. Let’s use some examples here we go! When you advertise on a Newspaper’s classified Ads giving your cell phone number oops! I think you realize where I’m coming from on this one Most Newspapers now have an internet presence that means your cell phone number is searchable which means your details may have been included when the site was indexed by one of the major search engines. In fact there is a very good chance that it will have been! What about the occasions you may have given your cell phone number when you’ve registered on a website, blog or message board? It’s the same again. OK so you get the picture. There is a very high likelihood that many people using the internet and other media have details about themselves which are traceable to some extent. Now how do we go about doing this free reverse cell phone number search? 1. Use a search engine, whether it’s Google, Yahoo, Ask or whichever one is your favourite that you use. 2. Type in the number you are searching for. Remember people use different formats for inputting their numbers so a little bit of persistence with variations may be in order here. 3. For example 123-456-7890 or 123.456.7890 . remember to try these numbers without quotation marks as this will give you the best chance of finding that number. 4. Once you get relevant information to your search then most likely it will be a website which comes up with the number included, you can then do a little more ‘digging’. You may only find the number listed in the site with no name or perhaps a first name only. You may be lucky however and get the full name and address of the ‘owner’ of the cell phone number. Sounds like a bit of a ‘hit and miss strategy’ well it is I have found that on any reverse cell phone number search that I have done at best I have only had a 40% success rate. To me this is disappointing when I consider how ‘long’ I have spent looking for the information. I spent nearly an hour and a half looking for a number I thought was on old friends just work that out on a cost basis at your hourly pay rate! So you have a problem finding who called on the cell phone? You can find a person online from existing cell phone numbers with success rates up to an estimated 70% of searches! Membership of some sites will entitle you to search further information Free such as background checks and even credit checks - Quite a bonus! If you really want that [http://www.locate4u.info/Reverse Cell Number Lookup copy.php]cell phone number and it’s irritating that you don’t have it. Check out [http://www.locate4u.info]www.locate4u.info and you will find a selection of the best sites to find the cell phone numbers’ owner! Fat-Burning Foods

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Chris Chenoweth In your quest to lose weight, there are a variety of foods that are not only healthy and nutritious, but help your body lose weight naturally and increase your bodys rate of fat loss. Incorporating some or all of these foods into your daily diet can speed up weight loss, build a healthier body, and put you on the road to a healthier lifestyle. *Apples and berries contain pectin. Pectin restricts the amount of fat the cells can absorb and forces the cells to discharge fatty deposits. *Citrus fruits contain high concentrations of Vitamin C. Vitamin C burns fat by liquefying it. This makes it easier for the body to flush fat from the system. *Calcium in dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt plays an important role in weight loss by accelerating the fat breakdown in fat cells. *Broccoli and Cabbage both contain very high quantities of calcium and Vitamin C AND are full of fiber! *Lean Turkey fires up the bodys fat-burning abilities by boosting metabolism and building lean muscle tissue which burns more calories. *Oatmeal and Whole Grains are great sources of fat-absorbing fiber that keep the body full by providing it with energy. They also rev up the metabolism which is necessary for burning fat and calories *Eggs are high in protein and essential in burning fat. If you are concerned about cholesterol, you can eat the white part as that is the most nutritious part of the egg. *Olive Oil keeps your cholesterol down and burns fat. Dont forget the first rule of a good and healthy diet is to drink water, lots of water! Water flushes out the system and eliminates harmful toxins. It enables the body to run more efficiently, speeds up metabolism, and makes it easier to lose weight and burn fat. Your body is made up of 70% water and needs a lot of water each day to perform its necessary functions. Asian Girls Want Men in the USA

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Oh Srichaphan The dream of many Asian girls is to move to the United States of America. The USA is so appealing to many Eastern girls because it represents the gender freedom they often dont get in their home countries. Many of them see the United States as a place they can make every dream come true. In fact they often will do almost anything to get the chance to come to the US even for a short while. There are several ways Asian girls can get a great chance at coming to the United States. The first way many of them come to the USA is through education. If they apply and are accepted at a college in the United States they will be able to live in the USA at least until they graduate. Of course, how long they can stay after that depends on the college and the rules and regulations regarding their initial stay. This is great for Asian girls because not only are they able to come to the land of freedom, but they are also given access to some of the best educational resources in the world. In addition to Asian girls coming to the USA for educational purposes, they often will try to find men who will bring them over. In fact, they often try to get American men to marry them so they too can be legally citizens of the country. Some will meet up with American soldiers and others will become part of online dating or mail order bride programs. The risks may be high with this type of program, but the Asian girls figure the rewards are well worth the risks. Find you asian love partner at the asian girls on cams page. Normalizing Low Body Temperatures Often Critical to Restoring Good Health

Friday, April 11th, 2008

By Jordan S. Williams Are you suffering from fatigue, migraines, PMS, hair loss, depression, inability to lose weight, muscle and joint aches, heat and/or cold intolerance, or other baffling symptoms that your doctor cant explain? Fixing a low body temperature might quickly and easily solve your health problems. Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome (WTS) is a condition that causes symptoms characteristic of decreased thyroid system function. It is best identified by its reproducible and predictable response to a special thyroid hormone treatment protocol developed by E. Denis Wilson, MD. It is the cluster of often debilitating symptoms especially brought on by significant physical or emotional stress that can persist even after the stress has passed (due to a maladaptive slowing of the metabolism). It is characterized by a body temperature that runs, on average, below normal and routine thyroid blood tests are often in the “normal range.” Symptoms can result when the average body temperature is less than 98.6 degrees (checked by mouth with a mercury thermometer); however, low temperatures classic for Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome sufferers are 97.8 degrees or lower. Virtually all of the chemical reactions that take place in our bodies are catalyzed by enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that are dependent upon their shape, or conformation, for their activity. When enzymes are too hot they are too loose; when they are too cold they are too tight, and in either extreme the enzymes are not the right shape and cannot function optimally. When the body temperature is too low, nearly all of the enzymes in the body function less effectively. This can cause a wide variety of complaints. High fevers (107 degrees F) can cause brain damage and even death. Severe hypothermia (less than 90 degrees F) can also be a life-threatening medical emergency. A temperature of 100 degrees (1.4 degrees above 98.6) can produce familiar symptoms of fever. It is easy to see how mildly depressed temperatures (1 - 1.5 degrees below 98.6) can also produce a very characteristic set of symptoms. It is obvious that to function optimally, the body must be at the optimal temperature. Under conditions of severe physical or emotional stress, the body can slow down and the temperature can go down to conserve energy, as a coping mechanism. That’s normal. But sometimes, the temperature can remain persistently low even after the stress has passed. That’s not normal. Examples of severe stresses that can knock the body out of balance include childbirth (the number one cause), divorce, death of a loved one, job or family stress, and surgery or accidents. The body temperature is regulated by the thyroid hormone system. The hypothalamus stimulates the pituitary gland to produce Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). TSH stimulates the thyroid gland to produce T4 (thyroxine) which is the raw material used to make the active thyroid hormone T3. T4 is also converted to Reverse T3 (RT3) which is physiologically inactive. 80 percent of the active thyroid hormone T3 is produced outside the thyroid gland, in the periphery of the body. T4 is converted to T3 by an enzyme called 5′ Deiodinase. This enzyme is inhibited by stress, acute and chronic illness, fasting, cortisol (steroid), and other things. Under stress and fasting, the body converts less T4 to T3 and more T4 to RT3 to conserve energy (with less T3, the cells of the body slow down). It is likely that the increased levels of RT3 that result can then further inhibit the conversion of T4 to T3, with even more T4 being converted to RT3, less to T3, and so on, with the body getting stuck in a vicious cycle, a sort of coping mechanism gone amuck. Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome is treated by using a special T3 therapy protocol developed by Dr. Wilson. With proper treatment patients can usually bring their temperatures up to normal. When the temperatures are normal the symptoms usually disappear. The hallmark of T3 therapy for Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome is the resetting phenomenon. The temperature and symptoms usually remain improved even after the treatment has been discontinued. T3 therapy for WTS does not need to be taken for life. The T3 medicine that is on the market is instant release. T3 therapy is much more effective and better tolerated when the T3 is mixed with a sustained-release agent. The T3 preparation needs to be carefully made (compounded) by skilled and experienced pharmacists, and taken twice a day, every 12 hours. More information about WTS can be found at http://www.WilsonsTemperatureSyndrome.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jordan_S._Williams http://EzineArticles.com/?Normalizing-Low-Body-Temperatures-Often-Critical-to-Restoring-Good-Health&id=196917 phentermine from online pharmacy buy phentermine hcl phentermine no prescription necessary phentermine com online us

Samsung E Series: Racing Ahead of Times

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alice_Erin]Alice Erin The Samsung E series signifies the top level of mobile technology of its manufacturer. Each handset in the E series is designed to perform and but the most important and popular feature of this line up is its aesthetically pleasing design. If you focus on each of the handset that makes up the royal family of Samsung Mobile, you’ll notice the gradual upgrade of functionality at the same time, but at the same time, each handset is unique and iconic in its own way. The lower end E series includes the sleek and stylish slider the Samsung E350. Though being tagged as the ‘lower’ in the hierarchy, the handset features a camera with LED flash something not common even in ‘premium’ handsets. The next in line the Samsung E370 maintains the same slider form with a different tasteful design. Feature-wise, the latter sport an upgraded megapixel camera among other things. The Samsung E series took a step away from their traditional stronghold of slider phones with the Samsung E530 and later the E870. The E530 that was launched in gorgeous shade of lavender pink instantly strike the chord with the female users. But a more simplistic design of the Samsung E870 is equally popular among both men and women though the balance slightly favoring the latter after its launch in pink and white solution. The phone is armed with 1.3 megapixel camera and 80 Mb of memory. The handset that took the E series to a different level altogether is the Samsung E900 . Powered with a 2.0 megapixel camera and premium features like Document viewer, the device strucked the perfect balance between design and functionality. Following the outstanding success with the Samsung E900, the company have very cleverly taken the coolest gizmo to the fairer sex with the Samsung E900 Pink. The most compelling aspect of the Samsung E series is the feminine colour solutions that make every handset of the line up very popular.
